I know we all like to decry the commercialization of the Christmas season, and I think this is a good thing. And all though at times it seems hypocritical, because many of us still head out looking for presents for our friends and family, I believe we need to continually remind ourselves to strive away from turning Christmas into a gift-buying season, or at least to minimize that mentality.
As such, I want to propose a boycott of sorts. Both Walmart and Superstore are now offering 24 hour shopping until Christmas, which I think is absolutely unnecessary. There is sufficient time to buy presents during regular shopping hours, especially if you choose to moderate the number of gifts you purchase. We do not need to spend hundreds of dollars on each other, including for our children. This does nothing more than promote greed, and distract from the message intended during this Christmas season.
So, if you must go to the big stores, or any other stores that are open 24 hours, please, go only during regular shopping hours. Do not support this policy, and the underlying mentality of commercialization and greed. Send the message that this is unnecessary, and is leading to the social degradation of western culture.
