So, there I was flipping through the latest issue of Canadian Architect magazine, when I came across an article about a building in Yellowknife. Well, if any of you doesn't know, Crystal and I lived in Yellowknife for a couple of months during the summer of 2006...right before we moved to Moose Jaw.

The article was about an architect who lives in Yellowknife, Pin/Taylor Architects, who designed an 8-unit condo complex built on the local bedrock rather than blasting the rock away. Well, it just so happens that they were framing that building when I was working construction up there, and I drove past it every day, quite intrigued by the techniques they were using. Here is what it looked like then.
Notice how they wrap they building over the bedrock with a very custom-shaped foundation wall.

Here's link to the article. It's kind of neat to see it going from almost nothing to be featured in a prominent magazine. Man, this makes me really miss the north country.
