Intropsection

Hey, what happened to the "a new post every week" thing? Oh well, no one seemed to complain, so no harm done I guess. Truth be told, I haven't been feeling too inspired lately, which causes me some concern.

I am in school to become a technologist of the architectural variety, which opens up job opportunities from all over the spectrum. I could work in residential design, become a design-build contractor, work for a big commercial contractor, like Graham and the like, or even work for an engineering firm. I have chosen the career path to work in an architectural firm, which is not at all the reason why I went to school in the first place, but I enjoy it a lot. A technologist in this capacity basically takes the architects design, and decides how it will actually be built. Then, they will manage the project from the design end, to make sure it is built properly by the contractor.

Now, as I begin to dabble in commercial architecture, I am strongly considering continuing on with school to become an actual architect. I can do this through a sort-of-correspondence program called the 'Syllabus,' which is done while you are working full-time. A heavy load, but I'd get credit for a third of the material due to my education thus far.

The problem....I am not sure I am architect material. Am I creative enough? I am taking a drawing class right now to work on that skill. But do I dream and "think outside the box" enough? I can't even manage enough creativity to keep a weekly blog updated with ideas.

Also, what I seem to think looks nice is often at odds with what everyone else seems to think looks nice. Maybe my aesthetic sensibilities are too old-fashioned to be marketable. It's not like I can do art for art's sake. The architect needs to having clients willing to pay for the building to be built.

Anyway, here's a building that I kind of like in downtown Regina. More specifically, I like the shadow lines it creates during sunrise. It doesn't show as well in the pictures, but each vertical separation between windows creates the very angular, yet soothing shadow line. Very classy looking.

Ya,I read you man; maybe it is the no weather days or something like the bears feel that makes one want to chill out and not be creative for a spell. Some call it burn out. I'm suffering the same qualms. But we all need a dream and time to dream. MJ
