Doctor+jerk=this guy

Went to the walk-in clinic the other day to get my eyelid looked at, because it has psoriasis or eczema or something on it. Have had it for years, and I've always had a cream for it. I ran out recently, so I needed a new prescription. I also had a yellow spot on the other eyeball I wanted looked at. After a long wait, the doctor finally sees me, glances at it, and says that it is contact dermatitis, which means I touched something, then touched my eye, and it reacted.
"But I have had this for over ten years."
"Well, I write you a prescription for it, but it is terribly expensive."
"So you think this will clear it up permanently then?"
"Not likely."
"But you said it was contact infected."
"Well you said you've had it for ten years, so it likely won't clear up then."
"What do you think it is?"
"I have no idea. Once you establish a family doctor, they can look at it and figure it it."
"Do you do that?"
"No, I'm heading for retirement."

Then he starts heading for the door.

"Uh, can you look at the yellow spot on my eye."
He glances, and kind of snickers.
"It's nothing."
"So it's nothing to worry about?"
"You don't have a history of heart-disease in your family, do you?"
"Actually, yeah!"
"Well, once you get a family doctor, they can test you for high-cholesterol."
whaaaaa...
Then he leaves.

What a jerk. Guess I need to find a family doctor in Regina soon, which is apparently kind of difficult.

He didn't happen to be an older German doctor did he? My friend and I both had bad experiences with this particular doctor in Regina...Not as bad as yours though. That's horrible!

No, I don't think he was German. What I don't get, is why do they all seem to hate their jobs so much. You chose to be a doctor, you are making butt-loads of money, could it hurt you to at least be courteous?

And a doctor that is generally nice is well-respected by all (doesn't take much really) whereas a lawyer is working against a deficit in the eyes of society in general. I think doctors get like this because there's no incentive in our system to be courteous and helpful. There's such a demand for their services they can choose when to be a doctor and when not to.

Someone posted the following quote in our coffee room and it is sooooo true:

"A customer is the most important visitor on our premises.

He is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him.

He is not an interruption in our work - he is the purpose of it.

We are not doing him a favour by serving him. He is doing us a favour by giving us the opportunity to serve him."

Here's the list of doctors accepting new patients in Regina. The one I had found left the city without telling me (hooray). Now I'm off to tackle the drop-in clinic for this nasty cold I have.
